FAQs

Got a question about Digital Map Shop?  Check our FAQ below for the most commonly asked questions, if you're still not sure, check our support forum or drop us an email.

What do I need to get started?

You can start using DMS in several ways:

  • Buy a DMS product from your local Memory-Map retailer or online supplier
  • Download Memory-Map software and create a new Memory-Map account by purchasing DMS Map Credits through your account
  • If you're an existing Memory-Map V5 user, simply click the Web > Check for Updates option in your software to download the latest version. New DMS options will appear under the Map menu for you to buy Map Credits through the software.

What is included on a DMS disc product?

Everything you need to get started - Memory-Map V5 software, a base map for the country you've chosen and a serial code for the number of Map Credits you've purchased.

What are Map Credits?

Map Credits are like mobile phone credits. You purchase a quantity, in km2 for the country, type and scale of map you need and add them to your Memory-Map account via the software. You can download as much or as little area of map as you like, upto the total of credits in your account. You can also have many different credits in your account at once - for example you could have 25,000km2 of Ordnance Survey Landranger 1:50,000 and 7,500km2 of Netherlands 1:25,000 scale, depending on what you've purchased.

How do I choose?

Start by choosing the country you need maps for. Then the type - topographical, road atlas, aerial photography are just some of the types available online. Currently, the products you buy in store are only available as topographical Map Credits.

How much is 25,000km2?

Check the back of any DMS disc product for eamples of area size. For example Wales = approx 25,000km2, Lake District = 2,500km2, New Forest = 600km2.  Draw a route around an area you want and either check the Properties of the route for the area it covers or check the Activation screen before you download the map. This will show you your remaining Map Credits as well as the amount you will use downloading the area.

How do I get my maps?

All maps in the Digital Map Shop range are downloaded via the internet to either a PC or Windows Smartphone using your Map Credits. We recommend a broadband, WiFi or 3G connection for optimum download speeds. Always check with your ISP for details of any download limits on your service as map files can be quite large - for example 25,000km2 OS Landranger maps could be around 1GB of data.

What hardware do I need?

Minimum System Requirements :
PC: Microsoft Windows Vista or XP.
Smartphone: Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 or later. Additional Storage card recommended.
GPS: Memory-Map, Garmin, Lowrance, Magellan, Navman, Silva, Suunto or NMEA/SiiRF compatible. Some GPS units do not support all mark, route, track and heart-rate functions. Check compatibility at www.memory-map.co.uk or ask your GPS supplier.
Digital Map Shop: Broadband, WiFI or 3G connection recommended. Additional download charges may also apply - check with your ISP for details.
